Hyundai are a part of the Hyundai-Kia group based in South-Korea. The company was established in 1967 when it became a part of Hyundai Engineering and Construction.

The Italian Designed Hyundai Pony
Due to the fact that Hyundai were relatively late starters in the automobile trade they decided to use Ford to co-operate in producing their first model, the Cortina. They then went on to independently release the Pony in 1975 – but this was still using the technology of another company (Mitsubishi Motors in this case). However, in 1991 the company designed and manufactured their first independent 4 cylinder engine along with transmission.
In 1998 Hyundai took over the second largest Korean motor company – Kia Motors. Since then they have been able to establish themselves as the worlds 5th largest auto company, this was achieved through massive investment into manufacturing, research and development along with worldwide promotion.
