Nissan are a multinational car company whose headquarters are based in Japan. They are the third largest Japanese car manufacturer, behind Toyota and Honda. When Nissan started out the vehicles were branded Datsun.
Nissan also own Infiniti, which is a luxury line of Toyota cars (just like Lexus is to Toyota). Way back in 1934 - when Nissan was founded – the top production lines were trucks, airplanes and engines. The first car associated with the company was the DAT (1914), this was produced before the Nissan name was incorporated, the word DAT comes from the three initials of the family involved.

The Datsun 260z
More recently, in the late 20th century, Nissan were facing huge financial problems. Production was ceased in Australia. However in 1999 Nissan had partnered with Renault. Each company holds a significant amount of shares with one another (i.e. Renault owns 44% of Nissan) since then Nissan have re-built and are now among the most profitable car manufacturers in the world.
