Subaru - Legacy Sports Tourer - First Boxer Diesel Engine

2008-05-27 11:12:32 - Last month the world's first ever boxer diesel car went on sale. Fuji Heavy Industries have produced cars with new features that include a sportier yet distinctive design, a smoother ride, prestige interior and advanced technologies that help lower emissions and fuel economies.

The Subaru Legacy Sports Tourer and Outback crossover are mid-sized estate cars which feature the all new boxer-diesel engine. This is Subaru's first diesel engine – It is slated to be introduced into other models in the future - including the Forester and believe it or not, the Impreza. Subaru (UK) Limited's Managing Director said: ''The significance of this outstanding new Boxer Diesel engine to both sales opportunities and our dealer network cannot be underestimated. With a UK diesel market share now running at 40 per cent this is the answer to many loyal and potential customers' future motoring needs.'' Subaru are also launching a high profile advertising campaign to promote this innovation.

The engine itself will be packing 148HP into 2.0L. Nissan claim this will give drivers an unparalleled fuel economy when compared to other 4WD cars in its class. They also claim the car will out perform 2WD diesel cars when it comes to economy, including the Passat and Mondeo TD - which both have less powerful engines. The official figure for the sports Tourer comes out at 49.6mpg. Don't think this comes at a performance drop though - it will do 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and have a top speed of 126mph. Not bad...for a diesel.

Looking to save money whilst driving a quality estate car? Then this might be it. The basic model will set you back £19,995.
