Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Car Review

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

2008-05-27 10:44:54 - The new Evolution X series brings something new to the brand, its supreme quality, giving rise to an entirely newbreed. But don't be fooled, the car can still pack a punch! In fact it can go a whole 12 rounds if it wanted. New advanced systems in place mean the car handles as well as any other four-wheel drive out there and boy don't you know it.

When you take a corner at high speed you can literally feel the wheels working independently thanks to the all new S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control). The S-AWC is an advanced, upgraded system of the AWC that was so successfully implemented into previous models. I won't go into the details, but it uses computer technology to send varying amounts of torque to drive each wheel independently. Think of it as 4WD traction control… This has a somewhat unique effect, I'm sure some will love it and some will hate it.

Under the bonnet you've got a newly engineered 2.0L turbocharged straight 4 engine which outputs 291BHP (Japanese version). This will get you up to 60mph in 4.5 seconds, very quick indeed! There are 2 versions available, a five-speed manual or a six-speed auto (or semi-auto) with Mitsubishi's twin clutch sportronic shift transmission, including the infamous flappy paddles. The manufacturers' advice is to go with the five-speed model, this is of course the obvious choice for anyone serious about this car – after all it is designed for used on rally stages!

The interior of the car is certainly classier than ever before, the materials look and feel more expensive. The option is available for a sat-nav system, a snazzy stereo and keyless entry. The car is available in the UK within next few months with a price tag of around £30,000 - needless to say it comes with a fairly low fuel economy.

Although on the exterior the car looks as aggressive as ever, big changes in the overall feel inside the car will make it appeal to a much wider audience.

Score: 9/10
