Nissan 300ZX (90-95) Car Review

Nissan 300ZX (90-95)

2008-05-27 10:44:54 - Since 1989 Nissan started to produce the second generation (Z32) of the 300ZX (also known as the Fairlady X). Ever since the Z-Car series started out in the Datsun era it has captured the hearts of many and the last in the generation it doesn’t disappoint – it is a true super coupe.

Under the Bonnet it has a 3.0L turbocharged engine. Nissan also introduced a naturally aspirated version with slightly less power output. The chassis is available in both a coupe and a convertible – which naturally decreases the performance (and looks if you ask me). The body styling has undergone some modifications when compared to the Z31 model – its both wider and shorter than its predecessor.

Although the car has since ceased production you can easily pick up a high quality used model for under £10,000 and possibly stretching to as low as £5000 if you’re careful – just look out for the dodgy dealers. In the European market the car was produced as a 2+2 (rear seats), but these are only useful if you like having you knees tucked up behind your head…Go figure.

Performance wise the twin-turbo churns out 276HP, going from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds and with a top speed of around 155mph it’s quick enough for all but the most avid speed freaks! The handling is what you’d call sporty….Its light on the roads and firm/responsive on the track.

The racing history of the 300ZX has been a success – winning various championships – the most famous being the 24 hour event in Daytona, it has also been best in its class at Le Mans 24. A modified UN-BLITZ Bonneville Z32 still holds the land speed record in its class at 261mph.

Whether you’re after a show car or a full on racing car the second-gen 300ZX doesn’t disappoint.

Score: 8/10
