Subaru Impreza WRX Sti 2.0 Car Review

Subaru Impreza WRX Sti 2.0

2008-05-27 10:44:54 - In 2005 Subaru released a new range to the second generation. Bringing with it more power and luxury. Before this the second gen Impreza had been somewhat monetised, Subaru wanted it to appeal to a wider audience much to the dismay of the enthusiasts. However, this WRX Sti is what the boy racers dream about - its A 2.5L turbocharged powerhouse.

The car has a host of features the driver can use in order to customise the ride and ultimately make it much more exiting. Driver's Control Centre Differential (DCCD) is a system that allows the driver to choose the ratio of torque between the front and rear wheels. The control can be set to automatic or manual, with values varying from 35:65 rear to 50:50, the front and rear differentials also enhance this system. Another feature includes a manual spray button on the dashboard which keeps the turbocharger cool and ensures efficient working in extreme conditions.

When it comes to looks the STI is still instantly recognisable, with the gold rims, turbo scoop pod and bug eyed headlamp styling. Although if you're after a less in your face model the Spec D option is available, the WRX STI Spec D doesn't go all out on the styling, possibly making it more appealing to the mainstream market.

The 2.5L turbocharged engine produces almost 300BHP in a flat-4, allowing the car to do 0-60mph in 5 seconds with a top speed of 160mph. Along with the multitude of handling features, this is a joy to drive. The fuel consumption figures, although improved, are still a huge cost at 26.25mpg (average urban and extra-urban), this coupled with the £27,040 price tag means it won't be loose change!

The second generation Impreza WRX Sti is well and truly still a car for the lads..

Score: 8/10
