Toyota Avensis Hatchback 03-08 Car Review

Toyota Avensis Hatchback 03-08

2008-05-27 10:44:55 - The new avensis hatchback offers something different. Toyota may have borrowed some of the classy elements from its Lexus chain of models, making the car sleek and comfortable. The interior of the car is classy and it is a very nice car to drive. The diesel version is available as three different engines from summer 2006. The Avensis scores well for its comfort and if Toyota are anything to go by the vehicle should not let you down in reliability

The version starts with a 1.8 litre which is a standard drive for a hatchback of this class. The 2.0 litre petrol engine is a little bit nippy but won't deliver outstanding performance on the road. From 03 to 05 the only diesel available was a 114hp which performs well but we advise people to go with either the 2.0 litre 124hp or the 2.2 litre available with a power output of 174hp - this will not feel as fast as you may expect.

Toyota Avensis Car Review

The Avensis Hatchback

The Avensis handles safely and enjoyably. The rear suspension in the car comes from from the Toyota Celica coupe, but this version drives much more like a family car than a coupe.

Avensis model grades are from lowest to highest: T2, T3-X, T3-S, T4, T Spirit and T180. All the models come with air con, a CD-player, electric front windows and airbags. T3 X comes with sporty alloy wheels, electronic climate control, electric windows all round, auto dimming rear view mirrors and automatic windscreen wipers. The T3 S does without electric rear windows and electronic climate control but includes sat-nav. The T4 is as T3-S but adds bigger alloy wheels and satnav. T Spirit has smaller wheels than the T4 but includes the cruise control feature, allowing for increased fuel economy, it also includes electric lumbar support with electric seats and a leather trim. T180 is the same as T Spirit, but specific to the 175bhp 2.2 D-4D.

Prices are reasonable for the range of features but you won't get much of a discount. Overall the car looks up market and has the Toyota brand backing it up for superb reliable.

Score: 8/10
